TITLE;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The Slack Key Guitar of Lehua Kaapana
SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The Slack Key Guitar of Lehua Kaapana
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Lehua Kaapana will perform and explain the background and history of the Slack Key guitar and the meanings of traditional Hawaiian songs that she plays. Slack key guitar or Kiho'alu, is a uniquely Hawaiian type of guitar playing. The known masters of Kiho'alu have all had their own stylings, tunings, and uniqueness. This musical art has been known to be played mainly by men. There are only a small handful of wahine (women) who have picked up this beautiful style of playing. Lehua Kaapana is one of the front runners in this genre. Lehua has a special gift, an angelic voice, that when joined with her guitar playing, can take one to a place of inner peace, love, and joy. Sit back, relax, and listen to the sounds of Hawaii as Lehua takes you on a soulful journey to the inner places in your heart. Experience the touching music of Lehua as she brings her Hawaiian heritage to the NINTH ISLAND. Event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. This event is sponsored by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the Nevada State Library. To register, please visit the library’s event’s calendar at www.mypubliclibrary.com.=0D=0A
